Impact Statement

State School Partnerships

We provided a Classics teacher to the local secondary school to teach Latin and Classical Civilisation for three hours every week. This enabled the state school pupils to study these subjects at GCSE. The local Sixth Form pupils join our Music Technology, Greek, and Latin A level classes. We also offered classes in German and Spanish. The state school pupils who benefit from these arrangements would not otherwise be able to study these subjects because their school cannot afford to employ teachers in these minority subjects and they do not offer them.

We organised and Career Fairs and Lectures about the university admissions process to which the pupils in the local Sixth Forms were invited. We organised and hosted a university interview preparation seminar attended by the 12 state schools and 80 of their pupils. We provided one to one interview practice and coaching to pupils applying to Oxbridge and for medical school in subjects where their schools did not have the specialist knowledge.

The Design and Technology department runs a workshop very week in a local primary school. We provide an introduction to Spanish in a local primary school. The Art department ran a day long art workshop for primary school pupils.

We provided short term placements to PGCE students from the local secondary school in Art and Modern Foreign Languages.

Six primary schools used our swimming pool, each once a week for a combined total of 10 terms throughout the year. We also provided qualified swimming teachers to five of these schools; a specialism which none of these schools have. We subsidised the cost of this provision by more than 20% of costs.

Pupils from the local secondary school participate in two of our orchestras and we act an exam centre for the ABRSM exams for them, providing all the administration and support at no charge.

Seven members of staff served as governors of local state schools. We allow them to take paid time off during working hours to fulfil their responsibilities.

There was also joint INSET session throughout the year with the local secondary school. We participate and host the DSL Safeguarding Forums which include local state schools.
