Junior School Music Workshops
Music workshops that aim to instill a musical curiosity into children who may not have the advantage of realising their musical potential.
Aims
To give children who attend schools with no specialist teacher the chance to create music; to enable children from a range of schools and background the opportunity to perform alongside each other; to bring children together who share one interest; to aim to instill a musical curiosity into children who may not have the advantage of realising their musical potential; to give the opportunity to improve sight reading, improvisation and listening; to explore ways of increasing confidence in performance; to give our scholars the chance to work with younger students and to act as mentors/buddies.
Background
Originally music and drama collaborated on musical theatre days. Once the Arnold building at Prior's Field was established, it became clear that it would be good to share facilities.
This format of workshops has been in place from 2022.
Resources
Prior's Field Recital Room and practice rooms are used for whole rehearsals and sectional rehearsals respectively. Performance in Recital Room. Two PF staff are involved from the music department.
Impact
70 students have taken part since it started in 2022.
12 Prior's Field students have helped lead the workshops.
Pupil Involvement
Participants are boys and girls aged between 8 - 11 years old.
Prior's Field music scholars act as young leaders - aged13 to 18 years old.
Frequency
On average one workshop per half term. Usually 9.30am -2.30pm.
