Global Ambassadors virtual relay raises £2,674 for the International Rescue Committee

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of Downe House Global Ambassadors organised a charity ‘Virtual Around the World Relay’ to raise money for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a charity that responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

A team of 14, comprising 10 Global Ambassadors and 4 members staff from of the Higher Education and Global Initiatives department, who were located across three continents, either ran, cycled or walked over 100 kilometres over a 2 week period.

Aims

The aim of the virtual relay was to raise money for the IRC, who look to support developing countries deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. The charity provides lifesaving programmes to vulnerable communities in over 40 countries worldwide.

Background

The Global Ambassador team wanted to initiate a team effort to raise money for the IRC, whilst taking account they were spread all around the world during Lockdown. Using the idea of a 'virtual' relay the girls were able to work as a team as a 'virtual baton' was passed from person to person as the relay moved around the world.

Impact

A total of £2,674 was raised for the International Rescue Committee.

Pupil Involvement

The girls were in the Lower Sixth Year group.
