GlenPark Year 6 Fiver Challenge

This year the Glendower Year 6 students teamed up with their Park Walk Primary school counterparts in Year 6 to run the Fiver Challenge. The Fiver Challenge is a national enterprise for primary aged children, supporting the development of core enterprise and financial education skills.

During two planning sessions at Park walk School the newly formed GlenPark enterprise groups researched, created and planned their businesses with only a £5 pledge from each of the group members. In mixed groups from both schools they worked together to start their business and to make their produce which ranged from beautiful bracelets, to lavender bags, painted shells, keyrings, handmade games and more.

The groups then ran stalls at the Park Walk Primary School Summer Fair on 1st July, enabling all students at Park Walk Primary and their parents to purchase the fabulous products.

Impact

Together they grew what was initially £305 (£5 per student at Park walk Primary and Glendower) to over £1006, just from the sale of items at the Park Walk Summer Fair. That’s an astounding £701 profit!

The Glendower students agreed that this year’s Fiver Challenge profits would be contributed towards equipping the Hub at Park Walk Primary School with cooking equipment to enable the students to explore basic recipes and develop their cooking skills. The Hub is a facility that the Glendower Girls have particularly enjoyed using during their time engaging in partnership activities at Park Walk this year. The funds will also be used, along with other funds raised at the Park Walk Summer Fair, to support the purchase of musical instruments for the students to use during their music lessons, a vital resource the school is lacking.
