Eye Dissection Course
King's invited students from Chrisleton High School and Upton High School to take part in an eye dissection led by Mr Bhargava, a consultant ophthalmologist at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust.
Students from all three schools were first treated to an interesting lecture on the structure of the eye, which included a real time video of cataract surgery. Mr Bhargava then expertly demonstrated to the students how to dissect a sheep’s eye.
The King’s School Head of Art was also on hand to explain how to produce an anatomical drawing of the structures seen. He lends some of his time to the Royal College of Surgeons, supporting them with recording their observations during surgery, thus enabling drawings of the anatomical structures to be produced.
Impact
Overall, the event was an excellent experience for the students who have an interest in medicine to ask questions of someone working in medicine and learn about another potential career option.
