Computing and Coding Stretch and Challenge for Junior Schools
RGS has teamed up with Digital Schoolhouse, a national organisation, to deliver a programme of stretch and challenge coding and computing workshops for students in Years 5 and 6 from regional state schools.
Part-funded by Digital Schoolhouse, and local industry, the programme is devised and delivered by RGS teachers and consists of a three hour session for each school looking at a variety of different coding and computing problems. Students work on the problems with their teachers alongside, the teacher being provided with additional material and support once they go back to their own school.
Impact
So far, the programme has gone beyond what we hoped it would achieve, with our order books for each session almost booked up for the whole year. Feedback from teachers has suggested that the programme has provided as much for the teachers as it has for the students, a valuable workshop to help teachers move their students forward in the ever increasingly complex digital world.
