Community Partnership

This term 17 Sixth Form pupils are volunteering in the local community, on either a Tuesday or a Thursday. These placements form part of the school’s VSU programme. Some pupils help out in local primary schools, but we have additional partnerships with three retirement homes nearby, and with two charity shops in Devizes. Pupils change placements every term, and can sign up for VSU in the Autumn and Spring terms. All except one of these partnerships are long standing, and mutually very beneficial. 

Music Outreach
Canterbury Cathedral Chorister Concerts

In addition to their regular performances at the Cathedral, the Canterbury Cathedral Choristers perform at venues (mainly local churches) on a Saturday eve approximately once a month.  They are pupils at St Edmund’s Junior School, Canterbury.

Music Outreach

St Edmund's Music Department has a number of ongoing partnerships with local musical groups.  These include:

St Edmund’s Choral Society which meets every Thursday in the Lent term. This is open to the local community, particularly parents and friends of the school.

St Edmund’s Music Staff also work with/run outside groups:
- The Oyster Singers of Whitstable
- Whitstable Choral Society
- Kent Festival Junior & Senior Piano Classes
- University of Kent Big Band
- East Kent Children's Orchestra

St Edmund's offers the opportunity for pupils of senior school age in local maintained schools to join the St Edmund's Symphony Orchestra (SESO) or junior school age pupils to join the East Kent Children's Orchestra. Pupils benefit from expert support and teaching from St Edmund's staff and from performance opportunities during the school year.
