Annually, we write Christmas cards to local care homes. This commenced this activity during COVID lockdown and developed a closer partnership with our nearest care home. The pupils in Year 5 created activities for the residence and exchanged letters. This was part of a Tate project called "Hear My Story". The pupils wanted to hear the story of residents from a different generation.

Every year, the girls have raised money for local, national and international charities. Some events that we have held include: a mindfulness walk on Hampstead Heath for YoungMinds charity and an obstacle course for the COVID relief fund for our local hospital, The Royal Free, and its staff.

Each term, one of our school houses raise money for a charity of their choice. This is pupil led by the House Captains who organise, communicate and campaign for their event, which is enjoyed by the whole school.

In Years 5 and 6, pupils elect charity ambassadors. Their role is to promote, encourage and educate the girls on our charity initiatives.

Aims

Our aim was to encourage the pupils to communicate and give back to our local care homes during lockdown.

To encourage service learning within our pupils and an understanding of community and charity.

Background

The school has a long history of charity work with the local community, national and international organisations.

Annually we write festive cards to care homes and this developed into other opportunities.

Resources

We worked with our parent community to coordinate the cards being delivered. The pupils took part in creating, writing and decorating each card.

Impact

3 care homes took part in this activity, a local boys' school and our own.  This is an activity that has a positive impact on our community and within school.

Pupil Involvement

All pupils in the school are involved with fundraising and charity work.

Frequency

Activities run throughout the year.
