The Cavendish School is actively involved in community activities, including hosting fundraising events.
We have been delighted to host the charity 'Families4Peace' at our school in order to support in providing a space for them to hold presentations, games and activities for children. They also carry out English lessons and help hosts and their Ukrainian guests find the support they need. Their weekly community gatherings at our school offers an opportunity for families to connect, commune and build lifelong friendships. These meetings take place every Saturday during term time.
During STEAM week our pupils engaged in exciting activities and lessons to further their knowledge about growth, including learning about how to develop a ‘growth mindset’, growing in age, different animal life cycles, growing viruses through origami, growing elephant’s toothpaste, growing new materials. The highlight of the week, was definitely welcoming Dan, from the Royal Institution. He presented, ‘Energy Live’, to our pupils; pupils from our partner school: Richard Cobden; The atmosphere throughout the day was totally electric. He had a brilliant sense of humour and taught science in a fun and memorable way, with loads of fire, explosions and mess!
School Council have worked incredibly hard to raise awareness and money for The Passage - a charity which offers a wide range of services, to meet the needs of homeless and vulnerable people. On Friday 11th November School Council held a toy and book sale for all year groups in the
school. Pupils spent their half term looking for toys and books that they would like to donate to the sale.
School Council then organised the items in preparation for the sale. We also held a Mufti Day on the sale day. Donations were collected in baskets at the front gate in the morning. All of the money raised from both the Mufti Day and Toy/Book Sale were donated to The Passage.
As part of the educational goal of good citizenship the school’s pupils and their families are encouraged and enabled to take an interest in local and national issues. As a practical consequence of this the school’s pupils raised funds for a range of local and national charities during the year. The school is based in the heart of a vibrant inner city borough and is particularly active in engaging with the local community directly, for example supporting church initiatives like organising a permanent food banks and contributing to food and essentials distributed via our local church.
