Carnegie medal discussion morning
Students from local secondary schools (Sir Henry Floyd, Beaconsfield High School, Sir William Borlase, Misbourne, Aylesbury High and Aylesbury Grammar), who have been shadowing the Carnegie Medal Book awards, meet to discuss and debate the shortlisted books in mixed groups and vote for their winner.
Aims
Increase pupils' enjoyment in reading; introduce new genres and authors; help with confidence in voicing views about texts; improve discussion and debate skills; skills of interpretation and analysis; work with a wider than usual range of people (e.g. in mixed-age/ -ability groups).
Resources
Refreshments; photocoping of resources; small prizes (e.g. bookmarks); staff time coordinating event.
Pupil Involvement
Approximately 90 students in total from PCS and some six local schools with pupils in Years 7-10.
Frequency
Annual event.
