Year 3 and 4 Football League

Staff from The Ryleys PE Dept organised a Year 3&4 football league for local primary schools to give children the opportunity for competitive fixtures at their playing fields.  Wilmslow Grange, Lindow Primary, Mottram Academy, Lacey Green and Alderley Edge Community Primary School all participated, along with pupils from The Ryleys School.

Aims

The tournament is held on an annual basis and provides opportunities for competitive play as well as coaching and guidance about match conduct and play.  It builds new relationships within the context of football and helps pupils to improve their expertise and performance in a competitive forum.

Background

In 2018, the school identified that there were fewer opportunities for the younger age group to participate in competitive fixtures and wanted to organise a league so that a series of games could be played over a period of time and children could improve their match skills.

Resources

The Ryleys School playing fields were central to the organisation of the tournament, allowing schools to play games across several pitches at one time.  The pavillion provides changing facilities, toilets and a refreshment centre.  The winners of the tournament received medals.

Pupil Involvement

6 teams of Year 3 and 4 pupils - mixed gender.

Frequency

Annual project each Spring Term over a period of weeks.  After school matches from 4pm until 5pm, culminating in a final match.
