Westminster School Primary Schools Science Outreach
Throughout the year, classes from local primary schools are invited to attend a series of interactive science workshops devised by members of the teaching staff and held in the Robert Hooke Science Centre. Other local primary schools that send pupils are: Millbank, St Matthew's and St Peter's Eaton square.
Aims
To give local primary school pupils an introduction to scientific investigation and principles. To enthuse Year 4-6 pupils about practical science and its applications in medicine and technology.
Background
An outreach initiative from the Head of Science, Dr Kevin Walsh.
Resources
School science labs, teaching staff and Westminster Sixth Form pupils. One particularly popular piece of equipment is the inflatable observatory!
Pupil Involvement
Our Sixth Form pupils act as demonstrators and mentors. They enjoy this very much and the primary school pupils benefit enormously - they become very animated and enthusiastic.
Frequency
Ongoing annual programme.
