Trinity Primary School Maths Morning
The aim of the morning is to provide a series of activities that will appeal to those children with a particular aptitude for mathematics. A selection of unusual and exciting mathematical topics are introduced and developed during this session. Schools in our neighbouring boroughs of Croydon and Bromley are invited to encourage their students who may be interested to attend. Due to its popularity, this year we opened up the invitations to 60 primary school children.
Aims
The aim is to provide to our local Year Fives and Sixes with academic enrichment; specifically mathematical challenges and activities to making learning fun and imaginative and to give them a consideration of, and appreciation of, maths in a different context.
Background
The Maths morning has a long tradition at Trinity School and has been running for around 20 years as part of the School's continued community engagement activities.
Resources
All the activities takes place at Trinity School and within the Maths Department with all the resources being provided by the department.
8 members of Trinity's School Maths department facilitate the morning.
Each child is placed in a group of 10-12 pupils and given a large envelope whereby they can collate all the resources given to them.
The School provides refreshments for the participants.
Impact
This event has always been a popular event and we regularly are oversubscribed. We receive a lot of email communications from parents asking if their child can go on a waiting list.
Pupil Involvement
Year Five and Year Six pupils (boys and girls). The ratio of boys to girls this year was 46:15.
Frequency
Once a year in November and runs from 9.00am-12.00pm.
