The King's School organised a training day for aspiring pupil leaders in a number of local state and independent secondary schools. The training sessions covered Character & Leadership (run by Dame Sarah Stoey), Assertiveness, Conflict Management, Public Speaking and other topics. It was attended by 120 pupils in 2022. It is planned to be an annual event.

Aims

To prepare Sixth Form pupils for leadership roles within their respective school communities.

Background

Our Head, Mr Jason Slack, was aware of similar training opportunities for pupil sin other locations in the UK.  We wanted to train our own School Captains, and identified this as an ideal opportunity to invite pupils and staff from other local schools.

The forst conference ran in 2022 and we hope that it will be an annual event.

Resources

Speakers and people providing the training were primary King's Staff.  In addition, we enlisted the help of the UK's most decorated Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, to deliver an inspirational training session on leadership qualities and character.

The conference is a day-long conference and uses the main hall and conference facilities at The King's School.  It was free for pupils to attend.  Lunch and all refreshments were provided by King's.
