Promoting STEM in the community
Throughout the day families from Bedford and beyond attend a number of free workshops, activities and demonstrations all established to promote a passion for science.
Sixth form and Year 11 scientists, head of science and Science Technicians lead hands on activities, including chemical curiosities with Skittles, augmented reality, producing electrical power using solar panels, foil boats and bath-bomb making.
Aims
A local initiative led by Bedford that is aimed at creating a greater awareness of STEM amongst primary school-aged children.
Background
Bedford Girls' School has worked with the Founders of the project for many years and were keen to be involved in promoting science within our local community.
Resources
The School provides staff, students and all of the resourses needed to run activities and experiments throughout the day.
Impact
Throughout the day a huge number of families enjoy taking part in the activities on offer.
Pupil Involvement
Students from Years 11 and sixth form help run the activities.
Frequency
This is an annual project that runs in March.
