Porridge and Pens
St Joseph's College exhibited its commitment to global charity by donating sports kit from St Joseph’s Prep to a school in Ghana. The college has been a steadfast supporter of Porridge and Pens, actively involving students and their families in assembling school boxes filled with essential items for Brightlingsea Academy's boys and girls. Porridge and Pens focuses on aiding children facing poverty, including those at the Girl Power Centre who live in challenging conditions or on the streets.
Colleagues from St Joseph's College have gone above and beyond, visiting the homes of some of the supported children to assess and address their additional needs. Over the years, the college's support has been instrumental in the growth of the Ghanaian school, reflected in the improved infrastructure and technology.
The Year 3 teacher, also a trustee of the charity, seizes every opportunity to share first-hand experiences from Ghana with St Joseph's students. This serves to broaden their cultural awareness and instil a sense of philanthropy. During a visit to Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, the teacher showcased artwork created by St Joseph’s Prep pupils and distributed older-style St Joseph’s College sports kit generously donated by parents. The Ghanaian boys and girls, filled with gratitude, eagerly embraced their new PE attire, quickly transforming into honorary Joeys. This tangible connection between schools across continents exemplifies the impactful and transformative reach of St Joseph's College's charitable endeavours.
