Participation in Cheney School's Iris Festival of Natural History, Classics and Art
The Festival Of Natural History, Classics and Art takes place annually and we as a partner school of Cheney School support and promote this to our parents. We run a table of artefacts overseen by NCS pupils and our Librarian/Museum Creator.
Aims
To support Cheney school in their annual Iris Festival through promotion of the event and sharing expertise. It also offers the development of pupil leadership skills by giving them the opportunity to interact with the public and their peers.
Resources: Artefacts to share, pupil and parental participation, teacher/museum curator input and supervision. This is an opportunity for both schools to share best practice and to promote their shared values to the wider community.
Background
Dr Robinson at Cheney School has been involved with the Debate Team and the Inter-school Debates at NCS each year. She also has liaised with the Head of Classics at NCS with regard to the A2 level teaching of Classics at Cheney so it was natural for her share this event with us.The opportunity to participate was identified by the Director of Educational Partnerships on the suggestion of the Librarian/museum curator.
This Year would have been the 2nd year we would have taken part but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Resources
Resources required are changeable each year but some artefacts and archaelogical finds were displayed last year. A museum's curator expertise is helpful, so that pupils can share their specific approach to the examination of artefacts. Parental and pupil participation and transportation after school to Cheney was required for some.
One member of staff was all that was needed supervising the table assuming parents transported their own children, alternatively two members walk pupils to and from the partner school.
4 hours approximately
No financial contribution was required. Tables were available at the partner school and the necessary presentation materials were designed and printed in school. The museum curator transported artefacts.
Pupil Involvement
Year 5&6 Pupils (boys) assisted with the NCS display and other Year groups visited the event with their parents.
Cheney School pupils of all ages are involved in the setting up and running of the event. Both genders.
Frequency
This event is annual.
