Aspire conference
We recently joined with The Maynard School is hosting our inaugural Aspire to excellence conference for local Year 10 pupils. Pupils enjoyed a series of talks, workshops, games and discussions designed to equip them for their journey towards applying for and attending some of the top universities.
Aims
• Meet like-minded peers and collaborate across local schools
• Understand how to start planning a strong application to top universities
• Learn about subject-specific pathways and super-curricular opportunities
• Gain insight into the admissions process, from GCSEs to UCAS
• Start building personal profile, confidence, and future goals
• Be encouraged and inspired in future university aspirations.
Background
This is our inaugural conference but we hope to hold this on an annual basis now that it is established. The idea was developed by the heads of The Maynard and Exeter School as a response to the need we have to equip pupils from all backgrounds with a secure understanding of how to be successful in competitive university application processes.
Resources
A number of guest speakers joined us from both school and university backgrounds. The conference lasted the length of a school day.
Impact
The impact will not be immediately obvious but we hope to measure this once the current cohort reach Year 13 and make their university applications.
Pupil Involvement
100 Year 10 pupils of mixed gender from two independent schools and eight state schools.
Frequency
Single annual event lasting for one school day.
