Every year Taunton School provides financial support for pupils with special artistic, intellectual or sporting gifts in the form of Scholarships, Awards and Assisted Places.
These recognise outstanding ability and potential in Academic, Music, Drama, Art, Sport, Design Technology and Computer Science. Scholarships are awarded for the whole of the child’s school career as long as they abide by the expectations of scholars. The Scholarships are available to all applicants, whether day or boarding pupils, from within the School and from other independent and state schools.
At Taunton School we regularly send students to Oxbridge and leading Universities in the UK, USA and Europe. We are educating our students to have the qualifications and confidence to do whatever they want anywhere in the world.
We offer the broadest possible curriculum in the Senior School and our GCSE results are regularly among the best in the region.
What is the difference between Scholarships, Awards and Assisted Places?
Scholarships are merit-based and pupils compete for them through a structured assessment such as exams or auditions. There are deadlines for applying and everyone goes through the same procedure. Scholarships are for entry into Year 7, 9 and 12 and carry a range of discounts.
Awards are merit-based and offer a discount on fees. They are available for entry into years outside the Scholarship entry years and reward talent in a broader range of skills.
Assisted Places are means-tested awards for financial assistance and are made at the School’s discretion. You will be given a financial form to complete, which is confidential, that is then assessed and a decision is made at the school’s discretion. It is possible for a pupil to receive assisted places support in addition to a Scholarship or Award.
