Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to pupils who excel in one or more areas of school life. Scholarships are assessed by testing. These awards are designed to assist those pupils who have demonstrated the potential to benefit from the education and opportunities provided by King Henry VIII School and who would actively contribute to the ethos and community spirit within the school. The awards will continue through a student’s time in the school, as long as it can be demonstrated that they are benefitting from the education provided.

Scholarships at 11+

Academic Scholarships:

All candidates who performed particularly well in the Entrance Examination will be considered for scholarships in English, Mathematics and General Excellence. They will be invited into school for interview or a scholarship paper.

Art Scholarship:

Students seeking an Art Scholarship are requested to complete the Art Scholarship Application Form, alongside the Main Application Form. In addition they should provide a portfolio of their work for consideration by the Head of Art. The portfolio should include a variety of art forms, such as painting, drawing, photography, etc.

Music Scholarship:

Candidates are requested to complete the Music Scholarship Application Form in addition to the Main Application Form. They are also asked to provide a simple recording of a piece, either instrumental or voice, which they would be prepared to perform if selected for interview. Music candidates are advised to consult our Head of Instrumental Studies, Mr Kennedy, before submitting their application.

Sixth Form Scholarships:

All students who have submitted an Application Form to join the Sixth Form at King Henry VIII School by December of the year preceding entry, will receive a letter inviting them to apply for a Sixth Form Scholarship. This letter will also be circulated to current Year 11 students at the school. Application is by letter from the student, addressed to the Headmaster and should be accompanied by a brief curriculum vitae detailing (as a minimum) the GCSE subjects being studied, the results of GCSE Mock examinations and the intended A-level subjects.

Academic Scholarship:

Applicants should be capable of, and on course to achieve, at least A* grades in all subjects at GCSE that are intended for Sixth Form Study, as demonstrated by the predicted grades provided by their present school. Students should have made a full contribution to the life of their current school.

Music Scholarship:

Students applying for a Music Scholarship should be able to demonstrate a wide involvement in music-making within their present school and ideally in the wider community. Successful candidates will be expected to show ability and enthusiasm to take a leading role in the musical activities of the school and to be capable of following the standard A-level courses offered at this school, one of which must be Music.

Sport Scholarship:

Applicants must have the academic ability to succeed within the Sixth Form and be able to demonstrate a wide-ranging contribution to school sport in two or more sporting activities.

Bursaries

Bursaries are awarded to pupils whose parents are unable to pay the full school fees. Bursaries are assessed by means-testing. These awards are designed to assist those pupils who have demonstrated the potential to benefit from the education and opportunities provided by King Henry VIII School and who would actively contribute to the ethos and community spirit within the school. The awards will continue through the student’s time in the school, for as long as it can be demonstrated that they are benefitting from the education provided.

Bursaries are available and are awarded by the Governors who consider performance in the Entrance Examination alongside parental income. Bursaries may offer up to 90% fee remission. Bursaries may be combined with Scholarships.

How to apply for Bursaries

Parents wishing to apply for a Bursary should tick the appropriate box on the main Application Form and will then receive a Bursary Form on which to submit financial details in confidence.

The deadline for Bursary applications for entry September 2018 was Friday 13th October 2017 (except 16+).

Sixth Form Bursary Forms submitted for September 2018 entry will be considered in May 2018. A Sixth Form application must have been submitted prior to any Bursary request.
