Impact Statement

As a Confucius Classroom school a significant number of primary school pupils benefit from our outreach. We provide a Mandarin teacher for approx. two hours each week to visit primary schools in the local area (two per term) and provide Mandarin teaching to KS2. Over 90 pupils benefitted from this last year. We also invite a range of local primary school to the senior school each week to provide an hour long lesson on Chinese language and culture. 20 pupils benefitted from this last year and the class ran for an entire academic year.

Our Synergy programme has led to a number of local primary school children benefitting from the resources of Queen's and taking part in exciting science lessons that they would not experience in their current schools. The aim is to extend Synergy to incorporate other departments in the near future.

Our Sixth Form Academic Lecture Programme and UCAS information evenings are open to all local Sixth Form students, although uptake is still low. Our Oxbridge and Competitive Courses Information Evening proved popular with local students with 43 registering for the latest event.

Our Grrrl Power Writing event proved popular with local primary school children and gave pupils the unique opportunity to develop their writing skills. Following submissions to the competition, students were invited to a day of workshops and engaging activities at Queen's focussed on fostering a love of writing. The winning stories were also illustrated by a professional illustrator.

We also partner with local secondary schools as part of the Ogden Trust, in the promotion of physics. In total 15 pupils have benefitted from this.
