Support of Harington School
Harington School is a Sixth Form Academy in the town of Oakham set up in September 2015. Oakham School was instrumental in helping set up the school and Oakham’s Headmaster and the Chair of Trustees are both governors of the school. Oakham School continues to develop links with Harington through individual departmental and academic pathway connections for example the Oakham and Harington DocSoc, which gives enrichment to aspiring Medics through a variety of talks and group activities as well as helping with Medical School applications. Another example would be in Modern Foreign Languages where Oakham School facilitated French A level oral examinations and offers additional support for Harington students in their study of languages. Oakham School holds an annual university fair which is attended by over 80 Harington students, there is a programme of talks, and events from the Oakham School calendar that are opened to Harington each term.
Outreach and partnership with local primary schools
Oakham has excellent outreach to a number of local primary schools for example hosting a Drama workshop for 30 local primary school children, collaborating English Martyrs CVA to run a Project 500 STEM-themed reading challenge using the school’s Smallbone library, which also hosts author visits to which local primary schools are invited. Senior students help with Modern Languages at St Mary and St John Primary school and at English Martyrs CVA School. The Design and Technology, Sport and Music departments run coaching and specialist training days for local primary schools.
