Swimming Courses at Handcross Park

This intensive weekly course has been operating successfully for five years. It enables pupils from Years 3 - 6 at Handcross Primary School to improve their swimming skills, and attain the National Curriculum Standard of being able to swim 25 metres unaided at the end of KS2. The course also ensures that children are aware of how to stay safe in and around water.

Aims

To enable pupils from Years 3 - 6 at Handcross Primary School to improve their swimming skills, and attain the National Curriculum Standard of being able to swim 25 metres unaided at the end of KS2.

It gives pupils access to a dedicated pool within walking distance of their own school to complete this part of the National Curriculum. Handcross Primary aim to give all pupils the opportunity to reach the standard required and to gain confidence through regular swimming.

Resources

Pupils have exclusive use of the pool at Handcross Park, within walking distance of their own school, daily over a five day period. The pool is heated with its own entrance and changing facilities. There is no charge to the school or pupils.

Impact

Pupils from Handcross Primary are assessed by their own teachers at the end of the course. The majority attain the required National Curriculum Standard of being able to swim 25 metres unaided by the end of KS2.

Pupil Involvement

All pupils from Years 3 - 6 at Handcross Primary are able to be involved, one class at a time. 

Frequency

This is a regular event that takes place once per term throughout the year. It has been running for five years and will continue as long as required.
