Primary Schools Football Tournament
Each year, we host a Primary Schools Football Tournament which sees a total of 12 schools come to Westholme and compete in a tournament using our astro turf with floodlights. The schools differ each year and this year's teams are as follows:
Ashbridge Independent School, Balderstone St Leonard's C of E Primary, Broughton in Amounderness, Clevelands Preparatory School, Manor Road Primary School, Parbold Douglas C of E Academy, The Redeemer C of E Primary School, Trawden Forest Primary School, Turton & Edgworth C of E Primary School.
The event takes place over 2 Friday evenings and after the matches finish, we serve tea to all the teams and their spectators.
To engange with the local community and share our facilities.
Particiaption from local schools is critical to make this event a success a is staff involvement.
Beneficiaries include the particiapting schools and their students/parents.
This is the seventh year of hosting this event and we first decided to run it during our first year of accepting boys to our Senior School. We wanted our boys to quickly become involved in competitive sports fixtures and to build relationships with teams in our local community.
It was initially identified by SLT and Marketing with help from our PE department.
Staff involvement from both sides (us and the visiting schools).
School facilities used: astro turf, floodlights, music centre (for toilets and refereshements), dining hall.We print certificates and give out goodby bags for all participants.
PE staff, catering staff and marketing staff all help with this event.
We pay the referees and purchase medals, a trophy and a plate for winners/runners up. We pay to produce a programme for the event.
The benefits to this project are the partnerships that we form with local schools and that it gives the football teams another opportunity to play competitive sport.
