Independent/Maintained School Partnership
Mill Hill School is one of several independent schools that provides a range of support to the London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham
Aims
Mill Hill and LAET both share the benefits of educational partnership, providing opportunities for pupils and staff to develop
Background
Highgate School was approached to support the opening of a "Free School" sixth form school on the site of the Tottenham university Technical College, using the very successful London Academy of Excellence based in Stratford, Newham, as its model. Highgate sought to involve further independent schools to add reputation, expertise and some resource to LAE 2. Mill Hill was approached in this context and joined the project.
Resources
In 2017/18 and 2018/19, Mill Hill School provided funding for staffing at LAET, supported the Chemistry department at LAET, offered a number of opportunities for LAET students to take part in activities on the Mill Hill site and the Head of Mill Hill joined the Governing Body at LAET. In 2019/2020, Mill Hill worked with LAET to recruit a teacher of Biology to teach in both schools, the head became lead governor for Safeguarding and SEND and further joint activities are planned.
Impact
Significant mutual benefits from the Head sitting as a governor for LAET and, particularly, taking a lead role in Safeguarding and SEN- sharing of best practice, ideas and policies/procedures. Enhanced opportunities for staff development through visits to LAET/MHS. Specific outcomes for LAET pupils due in August 2019 and impact of department led activities will be evident.
