Developing a Community Garden
Finton House pupils, parents and staff worked together to re-develop a strip of land at Trinity Fields into a garden.
Aims
Our aim is to develop a wellbeing and learning space which others in the local community can use and benefit from. As we are situated in a built up area by a main road, we wanted to create a haven from city life that also enabled people to learn more about the natural world.
In order to be successful, we needed to create a space which had multiple uses. Then we had to identify partners who could also benefit from the space and invite them to use it.
Background
We already had a link with Trinity Fields Trust as we use them for sports provision. The opportunity was identified by two teachers along with the manager of the fields.
Resources
Funds were raised by parents and time donated by pupils, parents and staff to create the space.
Impact
The anticipated outcomes are the use of space by several local organisations; a charity Share, nursery schools and other primary and secondary schools.
Pupil Involvement
Pupils from 4 upwards are involved in using the space.
Frequency
The space is used in each week by our pupils and also Share. Periodically, the space has been used by other pupils visiting during the holidays who do sports camps.
