Combined Cadet Force Partnership

In September 2019 Read School launched a CCF Partnership with a neighbouring state school, Holy Family Catholic School in Carlton, North Yorkshire.  Following a series of presentations and assemblies to pupils the previous year, pupils in Year 8 were invited to join Read's >100 year old cadet programme.   

Now in its inaugural term, 12 pupils and staff from Holy Family School travel to Read on Thursday afternoons to participate in drills and exercises with either the army or RAF sections. Pupils are also eligible to participate in the school's wide extra-curricular activities programme. We are excited about the collaborative project and look forward to the future expansion of this to other schools.

Aims

- offer a wider extra curricular programme and additional opportunities to pupils in HFCS

Background

- various collaborative talks between the two heads (appointed at similar times) 

- support from the Cadet Force expansion programme with valuable guidance on how the collaborative partnership could be set up.

- adequate staffing to provide requisite pupil:staff ratios

- financial contribution is made by the school 

Impact

Assessment not yet carried out but is expected to deliver significant benefits to partner school in terms of helping them broaden their extra-curricular programme
