Big Band concert in aid of Memphys
LGS Big Band concert organised in aid of the charity Memphys. £2791 raised. Involved 30 LGS pupils in Years 9+ and 4 LGS staff. A ticketed event, open to the public with all proceeds going to Memphys.
Aims
To raise funds for the charity Memphys, a local Charity that provides a range of specialist services to support children and young adults with additional needs and disabilities, and their families. It has been supporting families across Leicester and Leicestershire for 50 years, striving to give young people equal choices, equal opportunities to allow them to live ordinary lives.
Background
LGS has established links with Memphys as they are regularly a chosen charity for fundraising.
Resources
The Recital Room at LGS was used as the venue, provided free of charge for the event.
4 LGS music staff supported the event.
Impact
The concert raised £2791 for Memphys, as resounding success.
LGS pupils performing in the concert also really enjoyed the evening, benefitting from the opportunity to perform to a large audience.
Members of the local community benefitted from access to high-quality music making at a reasonable cost, whilst supporting a local charity.
Pupil Involvement
Independent school pupils from LGS made up the Big Band performing in the concert. These ranged from Year 9 pupils to Year 13 pupils.

This event is likely to be an annual event, even if the same charity is not used each year.
