BCS Experience Days
We are delighted to offer BCS Experience Days – an enrichment programme based on a range of subjects including STEM, Computing, Forest School, Modern Languages and much more. These days are designed to inspire and enthuse pupils.
BCS Experience Days forge fruitful partnerships with state schools across Birmingham, targeting those with a high proportion of pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium funding. Since its launch in 2018, more than 700 children from state schools have attended a BCS Enrichment Day.
Aims
Our aim is to give Key Stage 1 and 2 children the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of activities in specialist areas of learning in a fun, memorable and varied way.
Background
First launched in 2018, we have since
welcomed over 700 children from nine Birmingham schools to participate in a range of different activities.
Alongside our Enrichment Days, we are delighted to offer further opportunities across the curriculum and wider school life.
Resources
Whilst the visiting schools come to BCS to utilise facilities and resources they wouldn’t otherwise have access to, such as science laboratories, Forest School, sports facilities and the ICT Media Suite, and this is of huge benefit to both the children and the teachers who attend, the standout feature of BCS Enrichment Days is that they are tailored to the needs of the school and the children attending. Upon booking, the visiting school will have in-depth meetings with BCS’s teaching staff to ensure that they get the best out of the day.
These specialists will design a bespoke programme for each school which meets their curriculum aims and fulfil passions the children cannot access within their own setting making an impressionable, positive difference on the children.
Each Experience Day is free of charge. Lunch, snacks and drinks are provided and we can offer to collect and return your pupils to school at the start and end of the experience / day.
Impact
A feedback questionnaire is completed at the end of each Experience Day.
The impact of the BCS Enrichment Days, evidenced through feedback, which fills us with the most pride, is that from last year’s Enrichment Day participants, 95 per cent said that they would like to pursue further education or further opportunities in the subject that they took part in.
Pupil Involvement
BCS Experience Days are available to pupils in Key Stage 1 and 2.
Frequency
BCS Experience Days are available in the Spring and Summer terms of each academic year.
