Impact of partnership work done in 2025 (ISC annual Census 2026)
Impact Statement
In 2021-22, the BCS Enrichment Days engaged with around 450 pupils from 7 schools. The majority of pupils in these schools are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We measure the success of the Outreach Programme with questionnaires to all pupils and staff who have taken part. From all questionnaires gathered in 2021-22:
- 98% rated their experience as ‘excellent’, the other 2% as ‘good’
- 100% of staff said they would recommend the Enrichment Days to another school
- 100% of staff said they would rebook during next academic year
- 90 children have now worked with charities within the local community
A measure of success is also highlighted by 100% of the schools expressing interest to rebook for 2022-23.

At Blue Coat we offer several 7+ scholarships to children joining Year 3 each year, awarding both academic and musical excellence.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Four Academic Scholarships are awarded to children joining Year 3 each September who perform particularly well in the 7+ Entrance Test. Both internal and external pupils are eligible for an award. These cover up to 25% of the school fees. There is no need to make a separate application for an academic scholarship – all children who would like to join Year 3 and sit our Entrance Test are automatically considered.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Two Music Scholarships worth up to 25% of the school fees are awarded to children entering Year 3 each September who show musical promise. In addition, up to two Music Exhibitions may be awarded to cover the cost of instrumental tuition on one instrument.
Scholarships are only awarded if the child has also met the academic entry requirements of the 7+ Entrance Test. Children who would like to apply are expected to be working at Grade 2 level or equivalent (either to have already taken the Grade 2 exam, be working towards doing so, or be the equivalent standard if they do not take formal music exams). They must have been learning their instrument for a minimum of 12 months.
The Music Scholarship Audition will comprise of a performance of one piece on the candidate’s first instrument or the performance of two shorter pieces on two instruments. Following this, the Director of Music will hold a sight-reading test of an appropriate standard on the candidate’s first instrument, a series of short aural tests and a discussion of the candidate’s musical interests and experience to date. Please complete a Music Scholarship Application Form if you would like to be considered.
A written report will also be required from the child’s music teacher. The content of written instrumental reports remains confidential to the School and will be requested directly by the School from the teacher.
ASSISTED PLACES
The Blue Coat School has a generous Assisted Places scheme that has seen numerous children attend the School that would otherwise have been unable to benefit from a Blue Coat education.
Indeed, the origins of The Blue Coat School began with all its pupils funded through subscription. The School is committed to continuing this tradition of support, and today, offers a number of means-tested Assisted Places to children entering Year 3 or 4. These may be children transferring from Pre-Prep or joining from another school. Depending on the financial circumstances of parents or guardians, children may qualify for a part-award or a full bursary.
