Impact Statement

Over the course of the year we host several North Oxfordshire Sports Partnerships events including cross country, triathlon, football, netball, hockey, swimming and rugby. These events enable pupils of all abilities and backgrounds to experience sport at both a participation and competitive level with the use of specialist facilities and teachers. The overriding aim of these events is to engage all children thereby promoting a lifelong passion for sport and exercise.

Each year we organise an annual rugby sevens festival which runs across six days in March. It attracts schools from over 6 Counties, involving over 30 schools from both the state and independent sector. All tournaments are refereed and supported by the Northampton Saints coaches which enables all pupils an exciting opportunity to perform in front of coaches from a professional club.

We host author talks inviting relevant year groups from local schools to attend. 15 local state primary schools and 2 independent junior are invited to talks relevant to Early years – Year 6. We also invite 9 local state secondary schools and 2 independent secondary schools to talks suitable for years 7 upwards. In the last academic years this has impacted over 800 pupils. The junior schools in this area tend to be small and cannot arrange for authors to visit, but gathering the schools together here allows so many more children to have the opportunity to be inspired by authors.

Following setting up our Debating Society we organised and hosted a local debating event to practice and learn more about debating in a less competitive situation. This involved 1 local state secondary school and one independent secondary school. Over 30 students benefitted from this event which will be repeated this year.

We organise and host, once a month, the Sibford Community Orchestra which accommodates pupils from state schools and the wider community. Young musicians benefit from extending their instrumental and ensemble skills. It allows them to also access a wide range of orchestral repertoire.

Pupils from various local state schools were invited to the school drama production of Accrington Pals, this enabled pupils to engage with a set text and an opportunity to experience live theatre.

We host the LCM (London College of Music) examinations open to all schools, every term.

Scholarships

The following scholarships are available at Sibford School:

- Senior School. On entry to Sibford School in Year 7, Year 9 and Year 10.
- Sixth Form. On entry to Sibford School in Year 12.
Scholarship assessments for entry in the coming September are held in the preceding January although, in certain circumstances, scholarship applications may be considered at other times throughout the academic year.

There are three categories of scholarship:

- Academic: where a student shows exceptional academic ability and potential.
- Talent: Art, Drama, Music, Sport (including climbing, triathlon and equestrian).
- All Rounder: where a student demonstrates significant intellectual potential as well as providing evidence of exceptional talent in a particular discipline.

Sibford School offers the opportunity for prospective students to apply for scholarships on the basis of evidence of exceptional recent achievement, exceptional performance in the scholarship assessment and an interview/trial/audition.

Sibford School students currently in Year 6 or Year 11 can also apply as they are in transition to the Senior School and Sixth Form respectively. In exceptional circumstances Sibford School will consider offering a scholarship to a student who is already at the school and who has shown exceptional progress and commitment to a subject.

Scholarships are always an honorary award. However, for exceptional pupils, at the Head’s discretion, the award may represent a financial reduction equivalent to the value of up to 10% of day fees. Support may also be offered for music lessons, LAMDA awards or similar. All awards will be reviewed on an annual basis. Receiving a scholarship does not preclude applications for a means tested bursary.

The deadline for scholarship applications for 2024 is Friday 10 November 2023.

The scholarship day for Senior School entry in September 2024 entry will take place on Saturday 25 November.

Bursaries

Sibford School is committed to helping more young people reach their potential and encouraging them to achieve their aspirations whatever these might be.

We offer a limited number of means-tested bursaries which are made available to existing and prospective students from both Quaker and non-Quaker families.

Bursaries are not dependent on particular academic or creative achievement. They are, however, subject to annual testing of parental means and may be varied upwards or downwards depending on parental circumstances.

Sibford School’s bursary funds are very limited therefore competition for bursary funding is always strong and only given in exceptional circumstances; simply meeting our financial criteria for a means-tested bursary does not guarantee an award being made.

An independent company, Bursary Administration Ltd (BAL) will review and assess the application and arrange to visit you.  Depending on their assessment of your application, the Bursary Committee may propose an award against day fees only (but not on any extra charges).

Applications for bursary assistance are reviewed annually and we will contact existing bursary holders towards the end of Spring term to request updated information.  We will also work with BAL during this review process.

More information can be found in our Bursary Policy

New bursary applications for September 2024 close on 15 October 2023 for Year 7 applicants.

A second date of 31 December 2023 will remain for anyone not entering Year 7.

Applicants are required to complete and submit all forms to our admissions officer by this date in order to be considered. We may be unable to consider applicants made after this date.
