Impact Statement

A number of staff at Kent College serve as Governors of state schools. The school supports them in this through release time from Kent College. The impact of their roles as Governors is widespread in the state schools in which they serve. Teaching and learning and the outcomes for pupils is at the heart of the role. Through Governor visit days, monitoring, supporting recruiting and helping to set the strategic direction of the schools the Kent College staff play a vital role in the running of these state schools, contributing to the progress and outcomes of the pupils in the schools. Kent College hosts a wide variety of ‘Experience Days’ throughout the year for for state Junior Schools, these cover Sport, Drama, Art, Music, Farming and Science. The impact of these is that the pupils that visit get to experience a wide range of curriculum areas that are not possible in their own schools, this might be helping to look after farm animals, taking part in a science experiment, cooking, performing on a stage or using first class sports facilities. Pupils and staff of the visiting schools comment on the excitement and enthusiasm that the days fosters and develops new skills and possibilities for the pupils. Kent College hosts many state schools in regular sports fixtures throughout the year. The impact of this is that the visiting teams get to use some of the first class facilities at the school and compete at a level that is otherwise unavailable to them locally. Training and development fixtures are held that share coaching and development of individuals and teams to the mutual benefit of both the state schools and Kent College. Kent College hosts many local state schools for musical events including a regular invitation to the matinee performance of the Kent College Musical. The impact of this is clear in the faces of the pupils that attend, the enjoyment and appreciation of those performing is obvious as well as the enthusiasm this fosters to take part in their own productions. Kent College has hosted Art Exhibitions in Canterbury City Centre that have been open events and included exhibitions from local state school art departments. The impact of this has been to facilitate the wider display of and celebration of Artwork from a wide variety of state schools as well as those from Kent College.
