Impact Statement

One Science teacher provides approx 300 hours of outreach physics to approx 1400 pupils in 35-40 state primary schools on average each year. This has also helped in the region of 80 teachers and 30 support staff to increase their CPD in science. This has increased levels of interest and engagement in STEM related subjects in pupils in KS1 and KS2. State primary teachers have also reported greater confidence to teach STEM related subjects following INSET training days.

We organised and hosted an outreach concert in April 2018. 200 pupils from primary schools joined a large choir and performed in Hereford Cathedral to a large audience, broadening their musical experience and giving them confidence to perform in front of a large audience. Similarly, in December 2018 we organised and hosted our annual outreach carol service in Hereford Cathedral for 400 pupils from four Herefordshire state schools, with rehearsals beforehand.

We provide afternoon Classics Drama workshops in our school theatre for up to 30 pupils at a time for local primary schools. Our Maths department leads outreach events for 50 pupils from four local state schools, including a Maths Quiz and a Maths Championship in our Library. Our Geography Department also hosted the Geographical Association Regional Quiz, with six teams of three to four pupils each attending from local state schools. We also played approximately 75 sports fixtures across a range of sports with teams from half a dozen different state schools. In all cases, we provided any administration, rooms and refreshments without charge.

Our Combined Cadet Force is joined by 20 state secondary pupils in Year 8 and 9 from Whitecross School; those pupils learn leadership skills, new practical skills, team building skills and have the opportunity to travel on school trips including RAF Flying Days and residential camps. This can impact on an improvement in behaviour and personal confidence.
