Impact Statement

ISC annual census 2019 - State School Partnerships for Period Jan 2018 - Jan 2019:-

*Sensory Circuits Technique Training was held at The New Beacon, this session lasted 2 hours – Our Learning Support team of 3 teachers trained 6 Teaching Assistants who came from 6 local state schools. The benefit of this training has given 6 schools the awareness of difficulties and how to organise and improve the programme in their own schools for their children.

*We hosted Kidenza, a musical event – 29 hours, 9 schools, 750 pupils and 25 staff were involved to promote music in primary schools. Kidenza is a community Interest Company based in West Kent. The Kidenza orchestra which is made up of professional London based musicians plus their presenter, present a lively, interactive concert, lasting just over an hour. The New Beacon invited 9 state sector schools that brought a total of 750 children from age 5 and 11. The aim of the project was to inspire children and give them experience of a live, high quality, classical concert which is highly interactive and above all fun. The aim of the experience was to introduce children to a classical orchestra and the instruments, in a fun, enjoyable and educational way.

*The New Beacon organised and hosted two science talks from Lord Professor Robert Winston – 10 hours, 8 schools and 25 staff. The first, for children in Years 5-8, was attended by 4 local state primary schools (bringing 100 pupils and 25 staff). The second was for sixth-formers who are applying to study medicine (attended by 4 state secondary schools). The aim of this talk was to inspire and mentor younger and older students. The older students were also given career advice in Medicine by Lord Professor Robert Winston.

*Our Learning Support Team of 3 teachers hosted an event promoting Mental Wellbeing in Schools, this was a day event (8 hours) attended by 40 SENCOs (Teachers and Head Teachers) from across 40 Primary/Secondary Schools in Kent and the South East. Our Learning Support Teachers trained SENCOs on Mental Health Wellbeing – awareness and support was given for their school for the benefit of their children. The event was a great success.

*We organised a choir festival at Canterbury Cathedral which involved 5 members of staff attending on the day with 2 members of staff rehearsing the choir in the run up to the day, 20 hours, 4 local primary/secondary schools were invited (135 pupils). This gave schools that wouldn’t normally get this sort of opportunity, the chance to sing with others in the most extraordinary setting. It provides a wonderful musical experience for everyone and a treasured moment for many families.

*Our Drama Teacher runs several Performance Poetry Workshops at Penshurst Primary School with all year groups 1-6 (90 pupils), duration of 12 hours. The workshop was called ‘The Penshurst Performance Poetry Cup’ these workshops are observed by class teachers and the strategies for vocal delivery are practised in class. Our Drama Teacher has helped so many pupils by sharing her resources and offering support to teachers to guide their pupils. The feedback from this event has been so positive and Teachers have said how it’s opened up the children’s dialogue about poetry and language and how the children’s confidence and enthusiasm has soared.
