Impact Statement

Nottingham High school remains dedicated to providing Partnership and Outreach opportunities. It is not enough to simply offer one off events instead the focus is to form positive relationships with local schools, charities and organisations so the school has an even wider impact in the local community. It is so important to us, that every department in the school is tasked with providing opportunities in their subject across the full breadth of age ranges from Year 3 all the way to Year 13.

Currently we are working with over 70 local schools/academies and our offerings are proving so popular we are now having to expand the programme even further. The number of pupils benefitting is now over 1000 pupils.

The following list depicts some of the examples of excellence which schools have benefitted from:

·       Community Action High School pupils attended primary school and support the children’s learning as well as mentored pupils across all age groups.

·       Science Events – Harry Potter STEM Day including wand making and Year 5 Physics Challenge events allowed pupils to experience practical Science in the laboratories and provided inspiration and challenge.

·       Inspirational English – Visits from award winning authors that inspire reading in the young sees groups of up to 70 primary school pupils actively engage in a passion for reading, with every pupil leaving with a free book from the author not just to read but as a memento of an incredible day. "Year 4 students from St Augustine's were inspired by meeting the author Caroline Lawrence at the High School.  They were fascinated to hear how she compiled her Roman series of books and what inspired her to become a writer. She taught the children the components of a how to be a brilliant story writer and they can't wait to implement this in their English. They have treasured their signed copies of the Thieves of Ostia. Thank you to Nottingham High School for inviting us, and Caroline for all we learnt!"

·       Brain Day - Dr Guy Sutton from the University of Nottingham and facilitated by Miss Katie Lea-Smith (Head of Psychology) who ran a section on Bio-Psychology revision session as part of the day. This is a fascinating day learning all about parts of the Brain, Strong links to the Bio- Psychology Unit and Forensic with criminal Brains.

As well as what we offer in school we also encourage every pupil to volunteer with over 1 in 3 pupils currently volunteering and offering their time and empathy into the local community. It is through activities such as this where pupils can find real human connection, learn to empathise and develop as sense of community and belonging.

Impact Statement 1: One of our most rewarding partnerships is with Edna G. Olds Academy (Primary).
"Edna G. Olds Academy has benefitted tremendously from its partnership, link work with Nottingham High School. Staff and pupils have accessed a wealth of high-quality experience days, which have enhanced all aspects of enrichment and learning – a fundamental part of impact /development work. Due to the excellent links forged with the High School, our children’s mental and physical fitness has significantly increased, and this has resulted in greater enthusiasm for participation in competitive sporting events."

Impact Statement 2: Bee Netball Festival, Carnarvon Primary School                        
"Our netball team have only just started playing, so are at the very beginning of their netball journey. The Bee Netball Festival was pitched perfectly for them. There was a variety of different abilities, making it perfect for beginners and those who are ready for a bit of friendly competition. The whole event had a fun, no pressure atmosphere and it was enjoyed immensely by players and spectators. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the organisation of such a fantastic event.”

Impact Statement 3: St. Ann's Well Academy (Primary)
"After working alongside the Nottingham High School Partnership and Outreach team, I feel their work is beneficial to inner city children because they provide pupils with opportunities to be engaged with activities (such as the Derbyshire residential) which they would not usually have the chance to participate in! I believe the team encourages all members of society to work together, creating an engaging environment for everyone to thrive in!"

Impact Statement 4: MCCF Cricket Hub - various local state schools (Secondary)
"The Nottingham Hub at Nottingham High School has been very successful since its opening year in 2016, seeing 40 state school participants (20 at U13 and 20 at U15) per year benefiting from a professional coaching programme throughout the spring months, followed by competitive fixtures representing the Nottingham Hub throughout the respective cricket seasons that followed. After receiving such coaching in the spring, a number of the Nottingham Hub players have since been successful in gaining places in the Nottinghamshire Sub-County squads for the first time, with a couple of Hub players progressing to full County Age-Group squad representation."

For the last academic year’s intake into Year 7, 16.5% of new Year 7 pupils were awarded a bursary. All applicants were awarded assistance of 50% or more of fees, with an average award of 87%.

The School also offers Music Scholarships to pupils who enrol at Year 7. As a guide, pupils should be around Grade 4 standard or higher on their principal instrument in order to apply (although they need not have the official examined grades). The Scholarship covers the cost of weekly music tuition on the Scholar’s chosen instrument.
