Swimming Lessons
Milton Abbey provides transport, swimming pool facility and coaching for the Milborne St Andrew First School Years 3 and 4 swimming requirement. This is free of charge.
Aims
To ensure that Milborne St Andrew First School is able to fulfil its obligations to provide swimming lessons to Year 3 and 4 children, which otherwise would be financially prohibitive for the school and/or parents.
The Year 3 and 4 children are making good progress with their swimming and reaching the age related expectation in this sport.
Background
The Deputy Head at Milton Abbey School is the Chair of Governors and Milborne St Andrew First School, and is part of a program encouraging staff to be involved in schools often on governing bodies. Through this link it was identified that Milton Abbey School could make a significant contribution and so the swimming partnership was established.
Resources
The Swimming Pool and Changing Rooms, Transport and Drivers, Qualified Swimming Coaches are paid for and provided by Milton Abbey School.
Impact
The children are able to enjoy weekly lessons which otherwise would not be possible and the group sizes ensure that they are all able to make strong progress with their swimming. The children are assessed each year as to their progress and the results have been pleasing in terms of age expected levels.
Pupil Involvement
There is limited involvement of Milton Abbey pupils because of the timing of the classes.
Year 3 and 4 pupils from Milborne St Andrews First School.
Frequency
Weekly lessons during term time on an ongoing basis.
