IntoUniversity STAHS Partnership
We're working with centres in Haringey and Brent to explore ways subject & HE expertise can benefit IntoUniversity students and programmes. We're also working longer term to develop a new IntoUniversity centre in Luton, in partnership with other independent schools in the region.
We share the aims set by & needs identified by IntoUniversity - supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into higher education where they are currently under-represented. We work to connect students in IU centres to subject expertise (teachers and pupils) at STAHS
The project has been formally underway since September 2016 following a sequence of very productive meetings with IU staff over the previous academic year. The opportunity was identified and developed by a Deputy Head who continues to lead on the growth of the partnership.
Teacher & pupil expertise & enthusiasm. Two staff currently working on the partnership have allocated time for partnership work. Other staff, and Year 12 students, volunteer their time.
In 2017 and 2018 STAHS partnered with IU Brent & Haringey to run GCSE and A Level examination revision sessions in February half term and Easter holidays. STAHS recruited subject teachers and IU recruited students according to these subject areas. IU students worked 1:1 with teachers across two morning sessions run in the Brent & Haringey centres.
STAHS science and maths teachers have joined some Secondary Academic Support sessions in Haringey, to work with students who have requested specialist help in these areas. One member of STAHS teaching staff attends Secondary Academic Support sessions in Hariney once a week.
Y13 STAHS students also volunteered ot assist with IU Primary Holiday programmes.
Year 12 STAHS students. Y11 & Y13 IU students.
GCSE & A Level revision sessions will be repeated annually.
We are currently trially SKYPE tutorials - subject teachers based at STAHS tutoring individual IU students in their IU centres.
We are also exploring ways IU students can participate in STAHS Oxbridge programme.
