Geography Teacher Forum

The aim of the Geography TeachMeet is an organised but informal meetings for local Geography teachers to share good practice, practical innovations and personal insights in teaching. Participants volunteers to demonstrate good practice they’ve delivered over the past year, or discuss a product that enhances classroom practice.

The aim of the Geography TeachMeet is an organised but informal meetings for local Geography teachers to share good practice, practical innovations and personal insights in teaching. Participants volunteers to demonstrate good practice they’ve delivered over the past year, or discuss a product that enhances classroom practice.

Background

Around 20 teachers from local schools including: Heathlands School, Longdean School, Chancellors School, Sir John Lawes School and Haberdashes Askes School attended the TeachMeet which included 7 presentations during the event as well as time to circulate the stalls with information provided from Discover the World, The Geographical Association and The Royal Geographical Society. The presentations came from Steve Brace, Head of Education and Outdoor Learning at the Royal Geographical Society; Flavia Belham from Seneca Learning as well as various local Geography teachers.

Impact

The event allowed teachers to share ideas and prompted discussions about various topics relating to the Geography curriculum. As a result numerous teachers that have kept in contact and have shared further resources with each other. A number of schools now use sites such as Seneca Learning as a homework and revision platform.

Frequency

Future goals include making the Geography Teach Meet an annual (or more frequent) event, with the next one planned for summer 2020. We would also be looking to include events for A Level students over the next few years, where Geography A Level students from local schools would also be invited.
