Football festivals, tournaments and training
Pownall works in partnership with local Primary Schools within Wilmslow to host football tournaments for the local Wilmslow Schools in the Wilmslow Football League throughout the Winter and Spring Terms.
In addition, Pownall hosts the local football festival for Wilmslow Primary Schools to send their 'everyone who wants to play' teams for a fun football festival in the summer term.
Pownall is home to training for two local, community football teams in the locality and also allows for some of their fixtures to be played within the grounds when the council pitches are out of action.
Aims
The aim is to provide a safe and beautiful space for local primary schools to come and play football, in both a competitive and also a fun environment, and to welcome their parents to come along and encourage their children.
Background
Pownall was invited to play in the local leagues after the Head, David Goulbourn, approached the main organiser of the league.
The league has been being played at Pownall for the last 2 years.
Resources
Pownall uses its school grounds, sports equipment and catering facilities. The grounds staff ensure pitches are marked and goals readied to be able to host up to 16 schools.
Pownall provides 1 or 2 members of staff to organise and run the event, and also to referee matches played.
The cost of the grounds staff time, catering and time given by the Pownall staff after school, as it is run by them from 4pm onwards.
Impact
The benefit is that anything up to 160 children can exercise safely, and enjoy their football.
