English Teachers Network
English Teachers Network is a supportive programme to assist primary schools to develop their English teaching, continuing professional development of schools staff and to provide a forum in which to develop further free-to-access programmes, that can be financially and logistically supported by Bute House.
The inaugural event in the Summer Term featured a poet and the CEOs of the London Children's Book and Beanstalk. We continue in the Spring Term with the Director of Education at No More Marking, a leading provider of comparative judgement assessment, and are currently working with over 1,000 schools in England and internationally.
Aims
The Explore programme is our big tent of activities, programmes and partnerships with local schools. Bute House Explore reaches out to all primary schools in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and beyond with programmes and activities to enrich learning across the curriculum and beyond. We give a space to children for their personal growth and learning through creative experiences and enhanced learning.
All the Bute House staff team are involved in delivering Explore. Staff members give up time to
commit their expertise and talent to creating the best experiences for the children who participate.
The English Teachers Network provides a professional space for English Teachers and senior leaders from our borough primary schools to connect, network and develop their teaching for the benefit of their children. We partner with specialist charities and organisations to bring best practice into the network and stimulate interest and discussion.
Background
As part of our established and developed Explore programme, we are constantly seeking new ways to engage with our local schools, using resources and expertise we can uniquely provide. Based on feedback, discussions and requests with the Senior Leadership Teams of our local schools, we developed the initial idea for a network. Following an extensive qualitative research phase, we then created a series of events that would explicitly meet the needs of our partner school leaders and English teachers.
Resources
Specialist teachers give their time and expertise to design, deliver and review the aims and activities of the English Teachers Network, working closely with the local state school partners and relevant professional organisations and charities.
