Impact Statement

Public Benefit
In addition to its commitment to broadening access through its Assisted Places scheme, the School also strives to deliver public benefit through continuous engagement with the wider educational community.

Public Benefit - Governance
The School has a collaboration with the Levels Academy Trust, comprising four primary schools in the Langport area. Taunton School provides members of staff to sit on the Trust and Governing Boards of the Trust with the aim of working collaboratively across a number of areas which include training and sharing of skills and experience.

Public Benefit - Sporting Partnerships
The School continues to support numerous local community based clubs and facilities which provide access to sporting and social opportunities for the whole community, particularly its young people. Support is given in various ways, such as the provision of expertise, help with projects, profile raising and funding. Numerous established partnerships include local cricket, athletics, rugby and netball clubs along with support to Taunton Vale Sports Club and Wiveliscombe outdoor pool – the latter would have severe difficulty remaining open without the ongoing support of its sponsors and friends.

Public Benefit - Academic
Children from local primary schools are invited to and welcomed at various events throughout the school year including the Year 6 STEM festival, Year 7 Maths Challenge and lectures from visiting speakers. The School also hosts Careers Fairs with many visiting universities, Colleges and industry professionals offering apprenticeship programmes. These events are open to the community and local senior schools are invited to attend. Our School staff are also available to give assemblies and visit schools to provide expertise such as our Head of Science attending local Primary Schools to give ‘Flash, Bang, Learn’ workshops.

Public Benefit - Drama
Local children in Years 5 and 6 are invited to take part in ‘Play in a Day’ workshops where they have the chance to sing, dance and help write their own script and then perform a fully costumed, lit and staged musical production to family and friends, in our theatre facilities. Our staff host and support the students and their teachers and share their specialist experience and knowledge. Many of our music specialists are active in the community through projects and volunteering in the local theatre and churches. Our Heads of music also visit local schools to offer specialist lessons such as ‘More Melody’ a popular choral workshop.
