Impact Statement

Roseburn Primary School: use of the Sports Hall on Saturday mornings throughout the winter for football training. 20-30 primary children attend in each session, promoting team building and encouragement of the sport amongst their children, where access to facilities for their primary school is not available to them otherwise.

Edinburgh Secondary Schools Badminton championships - ESBA Tournament organiser: "A huge thank you to St George’s for the use of their sports hall this weekend. We had more than 80 badminton players from 15 different Edinburgh Secondary Schools competing in our local championships for the opportunity to be selected to represent Edinburgh at the SSBU championships in March. Some were playing in their first ESBA Secondary championships, some were playing in their sixth and final tournament but all were keen and enthusiastic. There were lots of close games and play, particularly in all finals, was of a high standard."

She Rallies Tennis Recreational Competition Coaching Course - 15 February 2018
The course was made available free to 12 teachers from Edinburgh schools, Edinburgh University and Tennis Clubs, held in St George's Sports Hall. As a result of this course, the coaches and teachers will reshape their delivery of tennis at their school or local tennis club with the aim of getting more girls and women into tennis and staying in tennis. The attendees received a large bag of tennis equipment and continued mentoring. Tennis Scotland were also present at the event, learning about the programme.

She Rallies Girls' Tennis Camp - 3 April-6 April 2018
The camp offered age specific tennis, fitness, ball handling skills to 5-18 year olds. The course aims to give girls a lifelong enthusiasm for activity and tennis, as well as offering an opportunity for professional learning for staff. The course was attended by 96 girls, 29 of whom were from local schools. The course was supported by 6 members of St George's PE teaching staff, 3 St George's coaches and 5 members of the facilities team.

Corstorphine Primary School and Royal High Primary School - World Music Day - 26 April 2018
33 students from Corstorphine Primary and 15 from Royal High Primary joined our P5 students for music workshops leading to a final production attended by the rest of our junior school and parents from participating schools. To facilitate the attendance of the pupils at the event, our minibuses collected and returned the pupils to their own schools and 8 members of our staff supported the event throughout the day. Royal High Primary School : "Children who participated and parents who attended commented on how excellent the day was and how much the children learned through enjoyment. Our children enjoyed meeting and socialising with children from the other schools. Your staff were so helpful and welcoming and the hospitality outstanding."

Roseburn Primary performance of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' - 25 May 2018
Roseburn Primary used our Robertson Music Centre, dining centre and grass side pitch for rehearsals and production of their P6/P7 show over two full days and an afternoon and evening performance to their parents. Space in their own school was not available due to renovation work. The event involved 60 pupils and their staff and led to the production of an excellent performance and the use of equipment facilities gave them increased learning opportunities.
"A huge thank you to the staff of St George's who made us feel so welcome when we used your music hall facilities for our performance of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. The show was a huge success, made all the easier to produce by being able to use your lighting, sound and projector to perform. The children were very excited to have access to the area and I feel they performed exceptionally well because of this".

The school offers three Practitioner Research seminars each session to which we invite staff from other schools. These are well attended by teachers from the state and private sectors and by nursery, primary and secondary staff. Since last January we have offered seminars on: "Dealing with Attention Difficulties", "Dealing with UCAS" and "Cultivating Creativity". Numbers attending have ranged between 40 and 100 and are usually split fairly evenly between state and independent schools. Feedback from those attending is very positive and the number of attendees who keep returning is also an indication of them finding the sessions valuable.
