Impact Statement

Our indoor swimming pool is made available to all state primary schools in the area and we had on average 5 primary schools each term using the pool every week during term time, with between 20 and 50 children attending each session. In addition we offer swimming lessons to local children through a Saturday morning programme and this programme is always fully subscribed.
Sir Robert Hitcham Primary School uses our Theatre for theirs annual end of year production where the entire Year 6 take over the facility for a week and present a number of performances to parents and other pupils. They use our facilities, technical expertise and equipment which they otherwise would not have access to. Thomas Mills High School also use the theatre on two evenings per year.
The Suffolk Schools Partnership primary school cross country is held in our grounds once a year. The ReAch2 Academy Trust hold Netball, Dodgeball and Rounders finals on three dates per year on our sports field and in our sports hall.
The Suffolk Schools Partnership also holds an annual swimming gala in our pool.
We now act as an MCC Hub, providing the opportunity for local state school children to benefit from access to first class cricket coaching, College staff and facilities. It also provides a gateway for the most talented to access opportunities at County and national level cricket.
We offer the services of our Language Assistant to the local state primary school to help with their language programme. Take up of this offer varies from year to year depending on timetables of both parties.
During 2017 a number of our 6th Form students assisted younger students at Ipswich’s Ormiston Endeavour Academy with drama lessons.
A member of College staff has been visiting Ipswich’s Ormiston Endeavour Academy weekly for the last two years to allow them to offer a Duke of Edinburgh scheme to students.
We currently have one member of staff on the Governing Body of the local state primary school and actively encourage staff to take up similar positions in the state sector where opportunities arise.
With the changes to the GCSE curriculum we hosted a full days training on the new Art syllabus specifically for state school teachers.
A Maths challenge is held at the school each year to assist state schools teach this critical subject. Each session is well attended by local schools. (Liz Ward)
The College hosted a Mindfulness and Spiritual Wellbeing Conference during the year to which local state school teachers and parents were invited. The event reached capacity, filling the 250 seat theatre.
