Impact Statement
Box Hill School is pursuing a partnership for the benefit of a local state primary school. It is a fledgling relationship at present but the vision is for pupils at the primary school to benefit from Box Hill's extensive grounds and sports and outward bound facilities as well as from Box Hill teachers providing lessons at the primary school. Music lessons are currently provided at the primary school by Box Hill staff. In addition to this the following is relevant:
Local State Schools (as well as Prep schools) were invited to:
Horrible Histories Drama Workshop;
Exploring Musical Instruments and Singing;
A Maths Challenge;
Surrey Cricket coaching;
School’s Drama Department production of ‘A Festival of Mischief and Mayhem’;
Sensational Science;
Second World War History – Escape Rooms;
Have also hosted the local U3A on a number of occasions through the school year.
Sharing our Facilities
· The School actively seeks sports fixtures with numerous secondary state schools – both local and regional;
· The School facilities are let, at a reduced rate, to a variety of local sports clubs and organisations including, Mickleham FC, Mickleham CC and junior teams;
· We hosted seven matches for Surrey at Junior County Cricket level this summer;
· The facilities are used for educational groups during holiday periods, international language schools and sports groups;
The School offered to coordinate local independent schools' facilities with The Good Shepherd MAT but has not received a response despite continued efforts including contacting via the DfE.
Our school community already has an embedded giving culture. We maintain the local football club grounds and provide access for the village cricket club to our cricket facilities. We also provide 6th form students on an outreach programme teaching languages at one infant school in particular that has 50% of its children defined as living in poverty. With another local primary school we mentor their senior management team and each of our International Baccalaureate students carry out community service during their 2-year course that includes:
• Volunteering on the South Africa Philippolis project
• Listening to primary school children read on a regular basis
• Helping the local parish with its Harvest Festival workshop for the little children
• Helping with the Mothering Sunday workshop
• Helping the local primary school with its Christmas fayre
• Helping organise the MacMillan Cake Sale
• Running Amnesty International within the school to raise awareness of the infringement of people’s human rights
• Being on the Charities Committee and raising money
• Volunteering at a Montessori nursery each week
• Working in a charity shop on Saturdays (as volunteers)
