Impact Statement

Talbot Heath will be measuring the impact of its literacy work with local primary schools. Workshops will be delivered jointly to our pupils and the pupils at partner schools who are looking to boost their SATs results for literacy and reading. Heathlands School in particular will be looking to boost the scores of their pupils through their joint work with us and the literary festival, ‘Spellbound’ that we have organised for the whole community. The ‘super reader’ scheme offers free festival tickets to young readers from across the area who read ten books prior to the festival, thereby boosting the amount of reading being undertaken by pupils of both primary and secondary age. Our creative writing, illustration workshops and author talks that will be part of the festival, will enable pupils of both primary and secondary age to develop their skills in these areas and be inspired.
As a regional Apple training centre, we offer free ICT training workshops to staff and pupils from all maintained primary schools locally. We are currently offering such training free to around 100 pupils and staff per session, enabling them to develop their skillset. Inviting pupils from the maintained sector to attend our drama and music performances allows them to access arts opportunities that they might not otherwise have. Our air raid shelter is used by local schools as a ‘living’ history space, allowing teachers to bring the History curriculum to life. We are visited by approximately 8 maintained schools per year. We allow local schools who do not have a large performance space to use our school hall for free for their performances, thereby enabling them to put on performances that are large scale and inclusive.
The opening of our new indoor swimming pool, and our community swimming academy with Poole Swimming Club, will offer children from across Bournemouth and Poole additional opportunities to swim. We will be liaising with local primary schools to set up opportunities for their children to swim as part of their curriculum.

Additionally we offer Tennis and Swimming Academy Awards for exceptional Tennis Players and Swimmers.
