Impact Statement

We organised and hosted state school Primary Maths Challenge activity day which was open to local state primary schools in the Stockton, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool region. In all, over 48 pupils, shared amongst 10 teams, were entered into the programme from across the area. Within the Maths Activity Day, able mathematicians were selected from ten local schools to complete in a diverse range of stimulating and curriculum-based mathematical challenges. In addition, pupils completed an extremely demanding Primary Mathematics Challenge of which 70,000 children took part across the UK.
Red House School hosted the event and provided all of the administration, materials, resources, rooms and lunches – all without charge. Pupils from our own school also enjoyed the opportunity to be take part of each event. They became ambassadors for the day and welcomed the opportunity to take on additional organisational and hosting responsibilities. One member of staff from each participating school also attended the events. Each fellow teaching professional praised the organisation and resources of each event. They also commented on the enjoyment of the pupils, the challenging and diverse nature of the activities provided, the widespread opportunities for delivering mastery within the curriculum as well as promoting essential teamwork within groups of young children. Both events have helped to forge closer links between local schools and have laid the foundations for our school to host similar activities on an annual basis.
