Impact Statement
Science SparksThroughout the year, we offer weekly hour-long Science Club sessions to local primary schools. This year 5 schools were invited and all participated, sending 49 pupils in total. The sessions were delivered by two of our teaching staff together with support from two of our technicians. Pupils were picked up from their own schools by our minibus and later returned by coach. This is a very popular annual activity.
Minimus Latin Club
We offer weekly hour-long sessions to local primary schools throughout the year. This year 47 were invited, of which 8 replied sending 16 pupils in total. The sessions were delivered by one member of our teaching staff.
Drama and Music Outreach
Every year we organise and host a Drama and Music Outreach production with local primary schools. This year 20 schools were invited and 4 schools participated involving 27 pupils in total. Two members of our staff visited each school on two occasions in order to teach songs and rehearse. The pupils then attend our school for a full day Saturday rehearsal and then again the following Monday for another full day rehearsal in our Drama Studio. The production is then staged at the Gala Theatre, Durham. All participating pupils are given a commemorative tee-shirt.
European Languages Day
9 local primary schools were invited to participate in a Y6 European languages event. 3 schools replied and sent 40 children. The three-hour event involved fun French lessons taken by three of our teaching staff, followed by the opportunity to spend @Euros' at a French market where pupils could purchase souvenirs using the language learnt during the morning.
Y6 French Club
During the summer term pupils from 14 local primary schools were invited to attend weekly French lessons. 14 children attended the hour-long sessions taken by one of our teaching staff.
NHS '70' Careers Fair
6 local primary schools were invited to the Careers Fair. 3 schools accepted the invitation and set 109 children. Various NHS professionals came to discuss their role within the NHS to the children. Several of our staff were on-hand during the day.
