Impact Statement
In addition to its primary purpose, the Trust provides a number of services and experiences to local primary schools free of charge. In 2018, these included a Chemical Magic Show; a Watersports Day and a Raspberry Pi Day (exploring computing) . Pupils from other schools attended the Junior Campus production and 118 pupils from four primary schools attended the Senior School Musical Production. The Junior Campus also hosted a Cross-Country event for 23 primary schools, with 432 children participating. The Head of one school attending the Chemical Magic Show wrote: “What Windermere School provided was a Science experience that primary schools are unable to provide without the specialist experience of a committed and creative group of scientists that you have. Your Science staff staged the event perfectly for a mixed audience of children and primary teachers. Without your support, I know our local primaries would not have this rich opportunity to excite young people about Science.”
Sailing and Watersports tuition at the School’s lakeshore Watersports Centre was enjoyed by 150 children (15 children on 10 days during the Summer and Autumn terms, for two local primary schools) at minimal charge and the Trust also provides a high quality School Meals Service to six local primary schools – approximately 210 meals per day – again for a minimal charge, enabling the children to have a cooked meal at lunch-time.
As the School is an approved local Examinations Centre, approximately 150 children take graded Music Examinations each year (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London College of Music and Trinity College, London). Four home-schooled external pupils took GCSE examinations at the School in May/June 2018.
As part of our Service programme students have provided assistance at three local primary schools.
Windermere School values talent and ability in all disciplines in the curriculum. We therefore award scholarships to students starting in Years 7, 9 and 12.
Scholarships have the following values:
Years 7 – 8: £150 per year
Years 9 – 11: £250 per year
Years 12 – 13: £350 per year
Scholarships are not paid as cash or given as reductions in the school fees. They are given as credits to be
redeemed against school trips. This is to help enable all students to enjoy the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities on offer, whatever the financial means of the family. A separate application can be made for assistance with school fees but such applications for bursaries are made by the parents to the Finance office.
At Windermere School we offer Academic Scholarships for entry into Years 7, 9 and 12, and Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Music and Sport Scholarships for entry into Years 9 and 12. We also offer an International Scholarship for entry into any year and a Round Square Scholarship for entry into Year 12. All candidates for Scholarships must be present at Windermere School on the appropriate Scholarship Day, except those applying for the International or Round Square Scholarships.
The Headmaster will interview all candidates for Academic Scholarships. In some cases, these interviews may take place in the candidate’s current school. These interviews will be conducted within two weeks of the date of the examinations.
The Scholarship deadlines take place at the end of January each year.
