Impact Statement

Partnerships with Local State Schools
1. We host at least twice a year an event for local schools for their choir and orchestra. Typically this involves about 120 children from local schools taking part in a day of music-making led by our staff. it enables children from small schools to play as part of a much larger ensemble.
2. We organise a Model United Nations Day to which about 100 students from local secondary schools come. These include a range of different types of schools. In addition to running the day our students visit a number of these schools to offer training in how the Model United Nations work.
3. We have for many years organised a careers day for Year 11. Between 40 and 60 Year 11 students from local maintained schools attend a day of presentations and workshops alongside our own students.
4. We have 4 members of staff who serve on the governing bodies of local maintained schools.
5. About 9 Year 12 students visit a local primary school to teach French once a week.
In the first term 11 pupils from Yr1 to Yr3 were taught French and 6 pupils from Yr4 to Yr6 were taught Spanish. The 2nd and 3rd term, the numbers are expected to be similar or slightly less as the primary school offers other after school clubs. There are about 14 pupils this 2nd term. In the first term, a couple of Yr13 from the previous cohort observe our students and give them feedback after each lesson. The activity is run by one member of staff.
6. All Year 12 students (c100) participate in local community service – schools, retirement homes, hospitals etc.
7. We now run an annual Modern Foreign Languages day for 80+ Y9 pupils from 3 local secondary schools.
8. Every other year the class of Yr5/6 is invited to Clayesmore mid-June for a morning of French activities with some language teaching, some Petanque playing and some cooking in the Food and prep department. The class has about 25 pupils. The event is run by the French department teachers with the help of other MFL teachers when possible.
