Impact Statement

The Great Read: In May 2018 we organised and hosted The Great Read, a literary spectacular with a reading quiz for the year 2s in 5 local state schools. The themed event featured set texts which we buy for each school. Teachers are given a sample book and quiz for their entire Year2 and then field their best 6 'bookworms' to the competition itself. All the children are sorted into teams by mixing children from each school (to retain a competitive element that ensures fair-play) via an electronic Harry Potter Sorting Hat and children then work together during an exciting evening comprising of 6 rounds celebrating literacy. Local state headteachers have praised this initiative event as a vehicle for encouraging reading and celebrating able literacy students.

St Christopher’s has organized and funded two information evenings, each attended by 180 parents and teachers from local State and Independent schools. In 2017, featuring Sue Palmer discussing ‘Child Development in the Modern World’ and in 2018, featuring Victor Allen discussing Resilience and emotional intelligence.
Headteachers from State Schools thanked us for their complimentary INSET for their staff and parents.

Each year we host trainee teaching students from Kingston University providing support and guidance to them to facilitate their development.
